World’s largest air-to-water heat pump to warm 30,000 homes in Finland | The heat pump will supply 200 GWh of energy annually and help save 26,000 tonnes of carbon emissions.

World's largest heat pump powered by renewable energy will help Helsinki meet its heating demands while reducing carbon emissions.

Finland’s capital city, Helsinki, is building the world’s largest heat pump to keep as many as 30,000 homes warm in the winter while reducing carbon emissions. While most heat pumps achieve this using gases that are harmful to the environment, the facility at Helsinki will use carbon dioxide as a refrigerant. “Urban district heating projects that utilize climate-neutral technologies are essential for advancing global efforts to reduce carbon emissions,” said Uwe Lauber, CEO of MAN Energy Solutions, in a statement.
