Y'all are sleeping on HTTP/3
Wake up call This post is about HTTP/3 and QUIC. If you don’t know what that is, there are many, many, many, many, many, many, many good resources that will get you up to speed. I’m writing this post to enlighten people on what has been happening in the last few years. All major browsers support HTTP/3 now. Most major cloud providers support HTTP/3 now. Most major load balancers support HTTP/3 now.
This is called ‘ head-of-line blocking,’ and it can significantly slow down web page loading, especially when multiple resources (like images, scripts, and stylesheets) are being requested simultaneously. I recently looked into this because I wanted to print out the version of HTTP being used when loading my website in a tool that I made but I had to resort to adding headers to the response via Cloudflare to get that information. Its ability to handle real-time communication, coupled with its built-in security features, makes it an attractive option for applications like online gaming, video conferencing, and more.
