You don’t own your games anymore – ‘get comfortable with it’ says Ubisoft


Ubisoft believes gamers need to get used to the idea they don't own their games anymore and embrace digital downloads.

The convenience of on-demand streaming collections the size of the planet is great, until it’s not, as PlayStation owners found out last year when digital content they had actually paid for was removed with no notice. Ubisoft’s Director of Subscriptions Phillippe Tremblay said, (well he would, wouldn’t he), “One of the things we saw is that gamers are used to, a little bit like DVD, having and owning their games. Having spent time as Head of Communications at a professional sports club and working for high-profile charities such as the National Literacy Trust, he returned as Managing Editor in charge of large US-based technology websites in 2020.
