Zoox taps ex-Uber Pool exec’s startup for routing software help

It's the latest in a series of deals that have seen robotaxi companies look outward for help in scaling their fledgling networks.

When James Cox, the former leader of Uber’s ride-share product, UberPool, left that company in 2019, the Silicon Valley giant had abandoned its autonomous vehicle development and sold off the division entirely. Zoox will purchase a non-exclusive license for The Routing Company’s tech, and also bring five of the startup’s engineers on board to “advance the efficiency and scalability” of its fledgling robotaxi service. He previously worked at The Verge, where he also covered consumer technology, hosted many short- and long-form videos, performed product and editorial photography, and once nearly passed out in a Red Bull Air Race plane.
